Who we are & How the idea was born

We are two entrepreneurial women; Diana and Natalie and we are mother and daughter.

Diana was born in Germany and made Mallorca her home more than 25 years ago, the island where Natalie, her daughter, was born.

Diana is an artist by nature and has been a professional photographer for many years. After attending wedding ceremonies on countless occasions, she felt an inspiration that she could not let go and became a wedding officiate.

As a lover of beauty and craftsmanship, she wanted to add an extra touch of beauty to her ceremonies. That’s how she started looking for an original decoration for wedding ceremonies which lead her to learn the different techniques of macramé, creating true works of art in decoration for ceremonies.

On the other hand, Natalie has been passionate about horses since she was a child and has always been in contact with them.

One day, Diana and Natalie were planning a photo shoot with Natalie’s horse. Diana came up with the wonderful idea of making a macramé horse halter for the shoot, without knowing how it would look. That day when they put the horse halter on Natalie’s horse, they were amazed at how beautiful it looked and impressed to see her horse’s beautiful head stand out.

It was an amazing feeling, seeing something so beautiful and unique, the horse halter made them feel special and also made for some wonderful photos. When they showed their friends the photos, they all asked the same question: Where is that wonderful horse halter from?

All this coincided with the end of Natalie’s studies in Business Administration. After thinking about what to do after her degree, she decided to follow her entrepreneurial instinct and dedicate herself to a project she was excited about, this project called WAIDA together with her mother.

The Waida story

Waida is Natalie’s mare, the mare that was given the macramé horse halter that day of the photo shoot.

It all started when Diana went for her daily morning walk with her dog and always saw a white mare alone in a fenced field. One day she met the owner and asked him if he needed help with the horse, as her daughter loves horses. So they exchanged numbers and Natalie went to see the mare, then called “Juanita”. After the initial contact with the mare, Natalie was sad and hurt to see the state she was in, full of trauma, afraid, trembling and not daring to go near anyone if the fence was not there.

The man told her that this mare was malnourished and he didn’t know much about horses. From time to time a man came to break her, and one of these occasions Natalie met the trainer and understood why this mare was in such a bad way.

Natalie couldn’t accept the situation and wanted to change things and so she started to treat this horse herself with a lot of love, which was exactly what she needed. Little by little the mare got better and better, eventually when she heard Natalie coming, she would run to greet her and always pressed her head against her as a sign of love.

After several years of hard work, love and dedication, the mare changed so much that she was no longer the same. And that is why Natalie decided to rename her, because a new mare was born, she was now Waida.

This is how the former owner gave the mare to Natalie, because as he said: “you have conquered her heart”.

And so the name of the brand was born, in honour of our brave fighter Waida.
